If you’re not thrilled with using chemicals and buying a ton of products to combat bugs around your house and yard, you can try a few of these natural pest remedies that many have claimed do the trick.
Natural pest remedies
Ants: Try baking soda or cinnamon at points of entry.
Slugs: Use sawdust on the ground where you notice slugs
Fruit Flies: Mix basil leaves in with your fruit bowl on the counter
Moths: Try cedar chips or lavender oil to repel moths
Japanese Beatles: Plant some garlic or white geraniums around your home, in pots, or flower beds.
Squirrels: Mix 1 ounce of hot sauce with 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 1 ounce of Murphy Oil Soup and 20 ounces of water in a spray bottle. Spray the area where squirrels are frequently that you’d rather they not.
Mice: Place peppermint oil on cotton balls and place where you suspect there are mice to repel them.
If you are going to consult a pest control expert (and there are organic options), you will want to do that before you have pest problems. Certain pests require spraying in a specific season, so advance planning is imperative.
