Two articles have been circulating this week about too much clutter in our lives. MPRNews published the article, “The best thing you can do is not buy more stuff” and EricaLayne.co published “9 Hard Truths About Clutter You Need to Hear”. Both articles not only talk about reducing the clutter in our lives, but stress the “stuff” is having on our communities and environment as a whole. It all has to go somewhere.
While our TidyTightwad tag line is “Less is more”, it’s also a adage to live by! The less stuff you have, the easier it is to take care of your home and maintain order. If you’re managing a hectic schedule extra “stuff” doesn’t make life easier. What are you stepping around needlessly? What are you moving constantly? What are you picking up one or more times a day?
Not only do busy families need to reduce clutter, they also need to have a plan. Get a calendar and write everything on it, including chores, deadlines, cleaning days, events, etc. If it isn’t on the calendar, it isn’t going to happen. Kids need to know where they are going and when, as well as have access to parents’ commitments. This can help with over extending. A quick look at the calendar is a visual cue that not one more thing can be added to a busy time of day with multiple prior obligations.
It sometimes means you need to make some tough choices, as do your kids. What can you declutter from your home and your calendar to make getting organized with a hectic schedule easier in 2020?
