How many of you take advantage of the opportunity to clean and organize at the same time you put away your Christmas decorations?
Now is your chance to clean those harder to reach areas
Many people move furniture to make room for the Christmas tree and store items to make room for holiday decorations. Before you move things back, take advantage of the opportunity to clean under and behind things. Reach areas you wouldn’t otherwise reach. Sometimes when clutter is put away, people like the less-cluttered look. Nothing says you have to bring it all back out. Try it this way for awhile and if you like it, find a new home for the items whether it’s another room or a donation pile.
Did kids get a pile of new toys?
Go through toys, games, books, linens, clothes and other items before adding in a multitude of new things. If you haven’t touched it in a long time or are saving it to use “some day”, give it to someone else who can use it now. Involve the kids in replacing toys and figuring out what to keep, store, and donate.
Storing the decorations
If there are boxes of decorations you reach past every year and leave in the basement or storage closet because you don’t like them, chances are you won’t like them next year. Don’t keep storing things you don’t like or that are broken. Fix them, love them, or get rid of them. Do this decluttering before putting back the decorations you do love to use each year.
