Find something local, fun, new, and low-cost to do or explore this summer in and around Hutchinson. Here’s a few ideas to get you started, and all can be done at a safe, social distance:
Parks: Grab the hand sanitizer and explore the parks. With so many parks in our area, there should be one that isn’t packed with people.
Hike: Head to a local regional park and do some hiking, bird watching, photographing, geocaching, or create a treasure hunt for the kids.
Bike the Luce Line: Head out on the Luce Line Trail on a family bike ride. If you head east, you can stop and enjoy the patio at the Crow River Winery. Just call ahead.
Sculpture Stroll: Check out the Hutchinson Sculpture Stroll.
Rock Hunting: Paint rocks to hide or hit the parks and trails hunting for them.
Picnic: Pack a picnic and head to a park or out on the boat.
Fish: Kids still fish free in Minnesota, and there’s plenty of shoreline around here to go fishing for the day. You can just get a single day license if you wish.
Outdoor Dining: There are so many new, beautiful outdoor patio areas at area restaurants to enjoy the summer sunshine or warm evenings. Some places plan to add live music soon.
Paddle Boats Canoes, Kayaks, and Paddle Board: If you don’t have one, see if you can borrow from a friend or meet up for the day and explore the Crow River or an area lake.
Outdoor Fitness Park: Give the free, outdoor Fitness Park at Rotary Park a try.
Batting Practice: Find an unused ball field and pitch/hit to each other.
Water Fun: Add a sprinkler to the bottom of the slide or under the swings or trampoline and let the kids play in the cool water.
Swim: Find an area beach, a place to spread out, and go for a swim.
Disc Golf: With two free courses in Hutchinson (Central Park and Ridgewater) give this sport a try.
COVID Time Capsule: Work on capturing some memories with your kids or grandkids during this unprecidented time that will be in our history books later.
Get creative and find some fun things to do this summer. It’s sure to be one we all look back on, so make some great memories.
