Cooking in a  crock pot is a low cost and easy was to prepare many meals.  During the cold months crock pot cooking is perfect for making stews, chili and coups to warm you up.  Here’s a few tips to help you make the most of your crock pot.

~Allow sufficient cooking time on “low” setting

~Cook with cover on-except to “brown-off” liquids after cooking

~Liquids don’t boil away as in conventional cooking.  Usually you’ll have more liquid at the end of cooking instead of less.

~It’s “one-step” cooking:  many steps in recipes may be deleted.

~Recipes that will not adapt well are those that require broiling or deep frying.

~Most uncooked meat and veggie combinations will require at least 8 hours on low.  Any recipe can be cooked on high the first couple hours and then reduced to low for the remainder of the cooking time.

met on a blind date in January, on Friday the 13th seventeen years ago.  Since there happened to be one of those this month, we decided to do something special.  We enjoyed a nice overnight getaway with an excellent meal.  As we were driving and visiting about what we wanted to do, what needed to be done, etc. I was making notes on my iPad so we wouldn’t “forget.”  We were talking about what it was like 17 years ago……….we didn’t drive a mini van, I wasn’t making a “to do” list on my iPad, I didn’t have a photo book of “grandkids” in my purse, I didn’t need my reading glasses and neither one of us had a cell phone!

But……..as much as things change, things stay the same way.  I offered a discount coupon to him on our first date and used one this weekend.  We even ended our romatic getaway with a coupon run to Cub Foods.

All that matters, however, is that he still loves me in spite of all my quirks and I still love him…..

Make organizing toy boxes and cleaning up messes a fun activity for your children.  It gives them a sense of empowerment and creativity.

I have a basket at the top of my steps and I have noticed that some people have theirs at the bottom of the steps.  We use it to pick up stray items that need to either go downstairs or come up.  The key is to get all family members involved in the plan….
