Planning meals……..”Doing DC on a budget”

Olazzo ItalianDon’t we look like tired tourists?  This was after the first day.  We were enjoying a very nice Italian meal in Maryland…..we had a FULL day and it felt good to sit down.

I planned out most of our meals.  We ate breakfast in our room.  I packed sandwiches the night before and put them in the freezer.  Each morning, we packed a bag of snacks, our frozen sandwiches and our water bottles and we found a spot to sit and eat our lunch each day.

We ate our evening meal out and we ventured to wherever our “coupon” took us.  I had researched some restaurants not too far from our location, googled the distance and the Metro connections.  I used www.specialicious.com, yipit.com, restaurant.com and buywithme.com.  You can put in your location and they e-mail you deals as they come up.  With the exception of one evening and that blog post is coming…..we never paid full price for a meal and we ate good.  I got a $40 gift certificate to Olazzo for $20..half price.  We had a great meal of pasta and homemade breadsticks with leftovers that were eaten later on………

The certificates from restaurant.com were a $25.00 for $2.00………..I ended up leaving a couple of those in our room for our hotel staff.  I attached a copy of directions and Metro connections for them also.
